\"It's interesting that it's deemed shocking,\" he told MTV News in an interview Saturday, the day after the film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. \"For me, there's something very strange about that because we see straight sex scenes all the time. We've seen gay sex scenes before. I don't know why a gay sex scene should be any more shocking than a straight sex scene. Or both of them are equally un-shocking.\"
Radcliffe, the erstwhile Harry Potter and an LGBT rights advocate, also noted that he appeared on Broadway in Equus, playing a young man who mutilates horses, a role that called for him to be nude onstage. \"What weirded me out the most last night was people were asking me all these questions about the gay sex scenes,\" Radcliffe said. \"I was like, 'You know I did Equus Some people are asking me questions like this is a more shocking subject, which is so strange.\"
Overall, a lot of mystery still hangs in the air. Is Jack really Quentin's nephew or a hired escort with an excellent cover Will Tanya tell her assistant, who is in the midst of a vacation fling with Jack And are these rich gays really just hanging out with Tanya, or do they have something more sinister in the works
Introduced in episode three, wealthy gay man Quentin (Tom Hollander) is at the White Lotus hotel in Sicily with a group of gay friends. Though most of them are rich older gays, there are a few younger men in their company, including Jack (Leo Woodall), a charming and sexy guy from Essex who refers to Quentin as his \"uncle.\" Alas, the dynamic between Quentin and Jack is never really highlighted in episodes three or four. Quentin is shown spending a lot of time with his new BFF Tanya McQuoid (Jennifer Coolidge), whereas Jack is just having a vacation romance with Tanya's assistant, Portia (Haley Lu Richardson).
As these characters step out of the White Lotus for a bit to spend time together in a beautiful (but also haunting) villa, things initially go as expected. Quentin and Tanya go to the theater to see opera. Jack and Portia go out on a date in town. But episode five then ends on a shocking cliffhanger: Tanya walks into a room and sees Quentin on all fours getting absolutely pounded by Jack. (She wasn't eating a salad at the time, but she might as well have been.)
One way or another, it's still a shocking turn of events as far as Tanya and Portia are concerned, so it will definitely be interesting to see how they will handle this discovery in the coming episodes.
With her open-minded performance style, provocative lyrics, and massive LGBTQ+ fan base, it was not terribly shocking when pop star Lady Gaga identified as bisexual in a 2009 interview with Barbara Walters. Since then, the pop star has been accused of possibly making up her LGBTQ+ status for marketing purposes. She addressed the accusations head-on during an album release party and Q&A session in 2013, stating, \"It's not a lie that I am bisexual and I like women... This is who I am and who I have always been.\" Gaga has also been involved in many LGBTQ+ rights and mental health causes over the years, including launching her own Born This Way Foundation to empower youth, prevent bullying, and improve mental health.
After Biden's shocking interview, President Obama (top) would soon throw the weight of the Justice Department behind plaintiffs challenging both the Defense of Marriage Act and state marriage bans before the U.S. Supreme Court, contributing to the landmark 2015 ruling that same-sex couples had a right to marry nationwide.Pablo Martinez Monsivais and Kathy Willens/AP Photos
It wasn't because we had something against gays, but because we could get somemoney and have some fun. It was a rush. A serious rush. Massive rush.Danger, fight-or-flight syndrome, pumps up the adrenaline. And when we get overon someone, it really heightens the rush.... It was nothing at all againstgays. They're just an easy target. Gays have a reputation that they can'tfight. It's a stereotype, it's not always true.... Women are easy targets, too,but that's cowardly. That's lame. I've never hit a woman. But if someone'smale, and an adult, and the sizes are reasonable, then he's fair game. At leastthat was my attitude at the time.
Nothing could better illustrate the casualness with which antigay violence isperpetrated than their casual invitation, the absence of . . . hostility orrancor motivating it. It was more like they were bored and looking forsomething interesting to do, to liven up the evening.... They were inviting meto join them in what was essentially a social activity. Our great grandfatherswho grew up in rural areas used to go out and hunt rabbits and squirrels forfun. Nowadays, in urban areas, they hunt gays and Latinos. (Varnell, 1991,p.4)
Plus, this is one of few queer movies where the main characters actually had a happy ending, and I, for one, was relieved to watch Therese and Carol still alive by the end of the movie (without falling victim to the 'bury your gays' trope). 59ce067264
